I didn’t sleep much the week before working on the first Scooter Patrol min, ending up finishing the bindery at 6:30 am on Saturday. It was worth it though. I sold out of all the books I brought. I still have around 25 uncut covers to make into books. At this point I think most of those are already dibs’d by friends and family. I I have any left I’ll put them up in a big cartel store or something. Now that the print studio MOTHERBOX is up and running I’m just going to move right along into the next couple books I want to make, so I’ll have plenty of new stuff at the next convention. I’m super excited and inspired that so many people were into this book. Makes me feel like I definitely need to be working on this stuff all the time.

After I sold out I got to go around and buy some swag. The only thing keeping me from going bankrupt was the fact I got to adhouse’s table late and a lot of the nobrow stuff they distro was sold out. I got some sweet OG drawings from Sam Hiti, and tons of excellent books. I can’t wait to dig in and read them all. Oh yeah and I’m going to use the word ‘tepid’ to mean awesome from now on. It was a super tepid show.

It looks pretty damn nice, lots of work went into it. Built a barn door from scratch, had my friend Carl help with the wall building and z-bracing the door. Now I just have to work like mad to get something done for MIX!

I love how effortless and ‘quick’ it looks. Just dirty enough to be interesting, clean enough to convey meaning and control. Simple mostly but not afraid to be messy and have some texture. The balance of all these things, I think is what makes it great.

But we were all drawin up a storm. It was fun and we even got to drive through this crazy rainstorm on the way back into town. I’m definitely going to go check out Taylor falls again at some point! Looks like fun, do some hiking!

It’s real gold too, so if everything goes all Cormac McCarthy or Fallout style I can punch myself in the face and sell/trade it for some food. Like my own little apocalypse savings deposit.

Also: got a comfy bed for the first time ever. No more sleeping on rocks and planks of wood. Busted car windshield is set to be replaced tomorrow. Things are looking swell and I’m finally taking advantage of the benefits of paying for insurance all this time. I feel pretty dumb having not gotten my life all fixed up before now …
